Fry to Fly: How Hotels Are Turning Kitchen Waste into Jet Fuel

In an industry racing to decarbonise, one surprising hero is stepping up: the humble kitchen fryer. With aviation emissions under global scrutiny and sustainable fuel supplies falling drastically short of demand, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is championing a grassroots solution — turning hotel kitchen waste into jet fuel. A shining example is Thailand’s Erawan Group, whose “Fry to Fly” initiative transforms used cooking oil from its hotel properties into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This innovative circular economy approach not only reduces emissions but also opens new revenue streams, proving that the path to greener travel might just begin in the hotel kitchen.
